Abstract:

The present study aimed to develop and evaluate a topical gel made from the ethanolic extract of Albizia lebbeck flowers, a plant widely used in traditional medicine for soothing the skin and reducing inflammation. Albizia lebbeck is naturally rich in beneficial compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, and saponins. These bioactive constituents are known for their strong antioxidant and healing properties, which help protect the skin, reduce redness and swelling, and support healthy tissue repair. Because of this, the plant’s flower extract was considered an excellent choice for creating a gentle, natural topical formulation. For this project, the extract was incorporated into a Carbopol-based gel using standard pharmaceutical preparation techniques. The gel base was prepared by dispersing Carbopol in purified water, followed by neutralization to achieve the right consistency. After the gel structure was formed, the Albizia lebbeck extract was carefully mixed in to ensure even distribution and a smooth texture. This helped create a stable, uniform formulation that could be easily applied to the skin. Once the gel was prepared, it underwent several evaluations to determine its quality and suitability for topical use. Parameters such as appearance, color, odour, texture, pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, and extrudability were examined. The gel showed an appealing, smooth consistency with no lumps, indicating proper blending. Its pH remained within the skin-friendly range, minimizing the risk of irritation. The viscosity and spreadability results showed that the gel could be applied easily and comfortably. Extrudability tests confirmed that the product could be dispensed without difficulty, and washability tests showed that it could be removed effortlessly with water. Overall, the study suggests that Albizia lebbeck flower extract can be successfully incorporated into a topical gel. With its pleasant texture, stability, and natural therapeutic properties, the formulation shows promise as a beneficial herbal option for skin protection and anti-inflammatory care.
